Viktor Yushchenko, Ukraine's president, on Tuesday set a target date of 2007 for the European Union to accept his country as a future member.

Mr Yushchenko, speaking at the start of a European tour, is determined to maintain Ukraine's momentum towards the EU after his inauguration last Sunday.
