Fewer than 24 hours after Lehman Brothers received the call to stop trading, more than 100 Linklaters lawyers were ensconced in the failed US bank’s London headquarters to handle its administration.

With more than 800,000 Lehman transactions to unravel from day one, and no contingency planning, the lawyers faced a task of unprecedented scale and complexity. They had to take immediate and effective control.
