Germany probes football ‘match-fixing’

European football was on the brink of a major scandal on Thursday after German prosecutors said police at home and abroad had arrested several individuals as part of an investigation into alleged widespread game manipulation and gambling fraud.

Prosecutors in the German western city of Bochum said the “numerous searches and arrests” came after almost a year of investigation targeting unidentified members of “an internationally active ring” of suspected criminals.
