Footballers strike back against 50p tax rate

Premier League football clubs are braced for a wave of pay demands from star players in anticipation of a new 50p tax rate on higher earners.

The financial concerns of the 440 foreign-born Premiership footballers who, like their English colleagues enjoy Porsche cars and palatial homes, are unlikely to have troubled the consciences of Treasury officials and ministers when weighing the pros and cons of a 50 per cent top rate tax on income.
