UN warns quake reconstruction will take years

The reconstruction of areas of northern Pakistan hit by last Saturday's earthquake will require billions of dollars over many years, the United Nations' relief chief, warned on Friday night.

Jan Egeland, the UN undersecretary-general and emergency relief co-ordinator, called for more aid from the international community, saying he would have to revise upwards the $272m (?225m, ?154m) the UN asked for this week for immediate assistance.
