Cost of consultants on home packs hits £6m

Ministers have spent £6m on consultants for proposals to force house-sellers to pay for home information packs - lambasted yesterday as "nonsensical" and "seriously flawed" - figures released to the Financial Times reveal.

The government's own red tape watchdog has united with all the main industry bodies in calling on ministers to postpone the proposed June 1 implementation of the scheme or risk "chaos" and high costs damaging the housing market.
