Rock plunges as it confirms talks

Northern Rock shares plunged almost 21 per cent on Monday on worries that existing shareholders could face further losses in any rescue of the embattled bank.

Northern Rock on Monday confirmed it was in discussions with “a number of interested parties” to save the business, but added talks were “only preliminary”. Its shares fell by 57p to 216.25p.
