FSA looks to avert any subprime problems

The financial regulator is to examine whether customers who get into financial difficulty after taking out subprime mortgages are being treated fairly by banks, in another sign of heightened concern over the sector.

The Financial Services Authority review, announced yesterday, will also focus on other areas such as lifetime mortgages used by older homeowners to withdraw equity from their homes for retirement.
