Summers urges banks to back reform

Lawrence Summers, the chief economics adviser to the White House, warned bankers on Friday that they had a patriotic duty to embrace repairs to a broken financial system.

Capping a week in which the return of big bonuses at Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase has again stirred up public anger, Mr Summers said risk that built up in the system had had “devastating consequences for workers, consumers, and taxpayers”.
