Lines between brokers and exchanges blurred

The US stock trading landscape, long dominated by the NYSE and Nasdaq, is evolving fast as banks and brokers try to reduce the cost of trading, leading to a blurring of the lines between brokers and exchanges.

With the two largest two stock exchanges preoccupied trying to get deals across the Atlantic, opportunities to take market share away from them abound.
