Prospect of more 50-year gilts

More supplies of 50-year gilts may hit the UK market by year’s end to satisfy demand for super-long assets.

Investors and bond dealers consulted by the UK Debt Management Office were nearly unanimous in encouraging more issues of both 50-year conventional and 50-year inflation-linked gilts in the next quarter, according to minutes of the meetings published yesterday. Some also recommended selling 40-year bonds.
