US regulator criticised over air safety

A recent spate of aircraft-safety violations at Southwest Airlines and other carriers point to a “systematic pattern of failure” by federal regulators to supervise the nation’s aviation industry, a US congressional committee said.

“There is evidence that there may be a pattern of regulatory abuse and that these regulatory lapses may be more widespread,” the US House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure wrote on Tuesday.
