Fiat full throttle in restructuring plans

Fiat outlined a restructuring of its Italian manufacturing operations on Thursday and appealed to the government and trade unions to back its plans, which could lead to significant job losses in Italy.

The company met Italian union and government leaders and announced a medium-term industrial plan that could see some production facilities scaled back or terminated. The move comes amid growing concern about the domestic impact of the group’s takeover of Chrysler of the US.
