Setback for Brown as colleagues attack plan

Gordon Brown's authority was dealt a heavy blow yesterday as senior Labour MPs attacked the remnants of his plan to reform Commons expenses.

A former cabinet minister savaged the prime minister's proposals as bullying by "diktat", while a cross-party committee called for Mr Brown to drop a vote planned for later this week.
