Romanian PM dissolves coalition amid inter-party clashes

Calin Tariceanu, Romania's prime minister, yesterday dissolved the centrist coalition that succeeded in ushering the country into the European Union on January 1.

The break-up will not necessarily lead to early elections. Many analysts believe the Social Democrat party, the largest opposition group, will back a new minority government headed by Mr Tariceanu in a parliamentary vote scheduled for Wednesday. The Social Democrats will meet today to decide the issue.
