Chill of credit crunch spreads wider

The announcement on Tuesday that one of Britain’s energy suppliers was axing 400 jobs passed almost unnoticed among the much heavier potential casualties of one of the worst week’s in Wall Street’s history.

Yet the cuts in Eon’s energy service division, which connects homes and businesses to gas and electricity, reflects how the effects of the credit crunch have begun to spread beyond the confines of the financial services and property sectors.
