West Midlands bears brunt of downturn

Many of the production machines used by LDV, the Birmingham van maker that expects to enter administration next week, arrived in crates from Asia – an inheritance from Daewoo, its Korean partner that went bankrupt in 2000.

Now the equipment could go back into the crates and return to Asia if it is bought as part of a “lift and shift” operation by a foreign buyer.
