Strong dollar to hit McDonald’s profits

McDonald’s, the world’s largest fast food chain, warned on Monday that the continued strength of the US dollar would hit its first-quarter earnings, in spite of robust global demand for burgers and fries.

The company said “unprecedented volatility in foreign currency exchange rates” would reduce its earnings by at least $600m, or 7-9 cents a share, citing in particular the weakness of currencies in eastern Europe.
