UK average earnings accelerate

UK workers’ average earnings grew faster than expected in the three months to July as the labour market tightened, official data showed on Wednesday.

However, headline wage growth of 3.5 per cent, up from 3.4 per cent a month earlier, remained well below levels likely to trigger inflation or prompt further rises in interest rates.
