It is in the tiny Indian Ocean island of Anjouan that the African Union (AU) recorded one of its biggest successes to date.
In February, 10 years of diplomatic efforts aimed at ending repeated attempts by Anjouan to secede from the Comoros Islands were deemed to be exhausted. So the AU helped execute the military option, launching an invasion alongside the government army, ousting the separatist leader Mohamed Bacar and reuniting the islands.
