Scientists create first beating artificial heart in the lab

Scientists have for the first time created an artificial beating heart in the laboratory, by "seeding" live cells into a protein matrix made from a dead heart.

The researchers at the University of Minnesota say their technique, demonstrated so far with rat and pig hearts, could eventually provide a new source of human organs for transplant.
