Cablevision hails court ruling on DVRs

Technology that allows television viewers to skip advertising breaks could become more widespread after a US court on Monday overturned a ruling that had prevented cable operators from offering “remote storage” digital video recorders.

Analysts described the decision by the US Court of Appeals for New York as a “momentous” boost to cable operators and a further threat to broadcasters’ business models at a time when advertising revenues were already threatened by a slowing US economy.
