When it comes to developing beyond an oil-dependent economy, Russia’s Soviet legacy is both its blessing and its curse.

Its vast reserves of natural resources led to the rise of an economy fed by heavy industry – but also a highly educated workforce steeped in science. This, investors hope, will steer the country into the world of high technology.
