Labour reforms urgent, warns OECD

High unemployment rates in France and Germany show no sign of abating this year and will ease only slightlyin 2006, making renewed efforts to reform the labour market all the more essential,the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development said yesterday.

The Paris-based organisation, charged with improving the economic prospects of advanced countries, warned that dynamic employment policies were needed throughout its 30 member states to withstand competition from economies such as China and India.
