Japanese teachers in court over anthem

Five teachers who refused to stand and sing the Japanese national anthem will present a case to the Tokyo district court tomorrow alleging that they have been unconstitutionally denied jobs as the result of their defiance.

The five teachers, all recently retired, were turned down for part-time teaching assignments normally given to those seeking to work beyond statutory retirement. They say they are being discriminated against because of their beliefs.
