Sir, Fiona Harvey’s excellent article (“Soil under strain: A thinning layer of life evokes concern”, Analysis, July 17) drew attention to some of the problems of soil fertility and some of the improvement in techniques: low-till and no-till farming that can help protect against soil erosion and improve soil fertility.
