Twitter targeted by spammers and marketeers

Twitter’s explosive growth has made it a target for spammers and paid promotions, raising concerns that a diminished signal-to-noise ratio might cause the messaging site to lose some of its allure.

“Twitter’s growth pattern has attracted some unsavoury activity,” said Sean Corcoran, an analyst at Forrester research specialising in interactive marketing. “It almost has a Wild West feel to it.”
