S Korea bucks trend with strong exports

South Korea’s exports rose at their fastest pace in four years to a record in June, in sharp contrast to those of its neighbours and rival producers, Japan and China.

Exports, which account for more than half of South Korea’s gross domestic product, rose 37.1 per cent from a year earlier on the weaker local currency and stronger demand for ships and mobile phones from emerging markets, including China, Latin America and the Middle East.
