For journalists working on the Observer newspaper, there was finally some relief from this week from mounting uncertainty over the future of the world’s oldest Sunday newspaper.

Guardian Media Group, owner of the paper, lifted the axe hanging over the 218-year-old title, saying it would not close it as part of a wide-ranging review of group operations.
