White House weighs up need for stimulus plan

Speculation is mounting that President George W. Bush could propose a fiscal stimulus package to help keep the US out of recession in his State of the Union address this month.

Economists and political analysts say the two most likely components of such a plan are tax rebates for consumers and investment incentives for companies, such as bonus depreciation rates for capital spending.
