Bush backs Hastert’s handling of sex scandal

President George W. Bush sought to end Republican disarray on Tuesday over the handling of the sex scandal involving congressman Mark Foley, defending House Speaker Dennis Hastert against calls for his resignation.

At a campaign event in California, Mr Bush said he was “disgusted by the revelations” about Mr Foley, a Florida Republican who resigned from his seat on Friday after the publication of explicit electronic correspondence with under-age male pages who worked on Capitol Hill.
