Bush sets out to woo European allies

President George W. Bush set out on Thursday to woo estranged European allies, emphasising the need for co-operative diplomacy to deal with Syria and Iran while showing a new willingness to address climate change.

In a preview of the conciliatory tone he will strike on his trip to Europe next week, the self-styled “war president” of the first term sought to highlight his commitment to a diplomatic, compassionate foreign policy.
