Bush in defence funding plea to Congress

President George W. Bush called on Congress on Thursday to approve money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan “without strings and without delay” so that the Pentagon could avoid laying off civilian employees.

“I ask Congress to provide this essential funding to our troops, before the members leave on their Christmas vacation,” Mr Bush said during a visit to the Pentagon.
