Court ruling clears Zuma to run for president

Jacob Zuma, leader of South Africa's ruling party, scored an emphatic victory yesterday in pursuit of the presidency when a court dismissed corruption charges against him and acknowledged that he had been the victim of "political meddling".

The ruling clears the way for Mr Zuma to capitalise on the African National Congress' dominance in presidential elections, due by the middle of next year.
