The dollar’s decline threatened to turn into a rout this week as the currency fell to a series of record lows.

Fears over the health of the US financial system and data suggesting that the US economy was headed into a recession weighed on the dollar, sending it down against the euro and the Swiss franc and pushing it below Y100 against the yen for the first time since 1995.
