Close bid may go hostile

Andy Stewart, chief executive of UK stockbroker Cenkos, is prepared to go hostile in his pursuit of Close Brothers, his larger investment banking rival.

Mr Stewart will today begin meetings with small Close Bros shareholders to try to convince them of the merits of his 950p-a-share offer, which values Close Bros at £1.41bn.
