Flagship plans by ministers for every household to have broadband internet access by 2012 will be supported with £200m of government money, the Financial Times has learnt.
The universal broadband proposal contained in the Digital Britain white paper, due to be published on Tuesday, would be part-financed with £200m taken from a BBC-administered scheme to help the elderly and vulnerable switch over from analogue to digital television, said two people familiar with the situation.
