UK and US revive threat of sanctions on Iran

Renewed tensions over Iran's nuclear programme emerged yesterday as both the US and Britain warned that world powers would return to the United Nations Security Council to consider targeted sanctions against Tehran.

Speaking in Cairo after meeting foreign ministers from eight Arab states, Condoleezza Rice, US secretary of state, said she feared Iran's latest proposals on enriching uranium abroad were a stalling technique.
