Carrefour shows signs of recovery

Shares in Carrefour jumped 7 per cent on Friday on the glimmer of a turnround as Europe’s largest retailer registered its best first-half performance in three years and stuck to its 2008 targets.

José Luis Durán, chief executive, said sales in French hypermarkets were slightly better in July and August than in the first half of the year and much better than in the second quarter.
