In Washington DC, 18 blocks from the White House, there is a monument to Taras Shevchenko, Ukraine's great poet and national leader, built at a time when Ukraine was still a captive nation. Shevchenko once wrote: "In your house, you will find them, truth, strength and freedom."

Today, in Ukraine, ordinary Ukrainians are finding in their own homes and on the streets these same qualities. Ukrainians are demonstrating for truth, pushing forward with strength and fighting for freedom.
