US task force to shed its GM stake

The Obama administration’s automotive task force will favour a quick sale next year of its majority stake in General Motors over a lengthier and potentially more profitable period of state ownership.

Steve Rattner, head of the task force, on Monday celebrated the passage through bankruptcy court of the largest US carmaker, which will be 61 per cent owned by the government.
