Carmakers warn of tougher times ahead in US

Carmakers ratcheted up warnings yesterday of tough times ahead in the US, the world's biggest vehicle market, after reporting lacklustre November sales.

General Motors' US sales slumped by 11 per cent last month from a year earlier, while Chrysler sales were down 2 per cent and Toyota and Ford posted flat performances.
