The European Union’s senior policymakers will push for swift Czech approval of the Lisbon treaty this week after Irish voters boosted the bloc’s self-confidence by backing the charter by an overwhelming two-to-one margin.
José Manuel Barroso, European Commission president, and Fredrik Reinfeldt, prime minister of Sweden, which holds the EU’s rotating presidency, will meet Jan Fischer, the Czech premier, on Wednesday to assess whether the treaty can receive final Czech endorsement before the end of this year.
