Only 1 in 6 take top diploma level

Only one in six learners studying for the government’s new diplomas have selected the toughest version of the qualification – the only form which is theoretically equivalent to A-levels.

Moreover the subject most commonly picked by diploma students is creative and media, a discipline decried by business leaders as the ultimate “soft subject”.
