Excluding the politician's entourage, there were only two passengers in the first-class compartment on the 10am from London's Liverpool Street to Norwich on Tuesday.
One was David Cameron, putative leader of the Conservative party, the other was Sir Bobby Robson, the former England football manager. After eight years of Labour government, only upmarket politicians and knighted soccer managers can evidently afford the fares. Mr Cameron spotted his fellow traveller before they even got in and looked a little awestruck; Sir Bobby was slower on the uptake. Eventually, he noticed: "Isn't that...?"
