Virgin Radio will disappear as a nationwide brand under the terms of a sale being negotiated by its owner, SMG, for between £50m and £60m ($99m – $119m).

Negotiations with Absolute Radio, which is backed by Irish investors and Bennett Coleman, owner of the Times of India group, are close to a conclusion and will see the AM national and FM London licences sold by SMG, according to people familiar with the deal.
