Accounts users against obfuscation

Sir, Attempts to shoot the messenger in the credit crisis have brought together some strange bedfellows: President Nicolas Sarkozy of France and the US Congress. Neither seems to like the fact that fair value accounting reflects the depressed valuations that are a symptom of the crisis. Nor do they seem interested in the preference of users of accounts for up-to-date values on the balance-sheet date.
