There are four times as many mobile subscribers in the world as there are installed PCs. In the developing world, this statistic could be crucial in showing how to bridge what has become known as the “digital divide” – a relative measure of access to, and use of, information and communications technology (ICT).
Niklas Savander, executive vice-president of Nokia’s Global services and software business, notes that for many people, especially in the developing world, “the mobile phone is becoming the primary computing device”.
