Airline shareholders look for spin-off plans

Investors’ patience with US airlines may be wearing thin.

While many of the biggest carriers have signalled they are weighing plans to sell or spin off ancillary businesses – from frequent-flyer programmes to aircraft maintenance divisions – news of the possible spin-offs has drawn the same foot taps that greet a long-overdue flight.
