Protests shake Arab autocracies

The ‘Jasmine revolt’ popular uprising that led to the ousting of Tunisian President Zein al-Abidine Ben Ali has since spread to other nations in the region, including Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Libya and Djibuti.

On Friday 11 February, Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak announced he would be stepping down following an 18-day-old revolt against his rule.
